Timber Rattlesnake Conservation Study at CU

	Timber Rattlesnake Conservation Study at CU Cumberland University Assistant Professor of Biology Danny Bryan has spent the past several years studying the impact of development in Middle Tennessee on the Timber Rattlesnake population. Prior to Professor Bryan's study, which is in conjunction with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency and the US Fish & Wildlife Service, very little was known about the Timber Rattlesnake population in the mid-state. The species is currently listed as "threatened" in Tennessee; however, Bryan's study - which focuses on the Timber Rattlesnakes' population movements and repopulation - suggests the species may be endangered due to encroaching development and habitat loss. In this video, Professor Bryan implants a Timber Rattler with a radio tracking device that will allow him to monitor its movement and activities for approximately two years. 	A Defining Moment: The Campaign for Cumberland A short film focusing on the past, present and future of Cumberland University -- a 166-year-old, private, contemporary liberal arts university in Lebanon, Tennessee. This film was produced for the Silver Anniversary of the Phoenix Ball, the University's signature black-tie fundraiser, which was held on Saturday, June 7, 2008. The film takes a look back at Cumberland's storied history and a glimpse at its bright future, while exploring the elements of a recently launched $50 million capital campaign known as "The Campaign for Cumberland." The capital campaign looks to further improve the Cumberland campus by adding a new Nursing & Science building to house the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing; an expansion to the June & Bill Heydel Fine Arts Center; and the Cafe Pavilion, a central gathering place for Cumberland students, faculty and staff to convene for study sessions, meetings, meals and entertainment. 	Charlie Daniels Speaks to Cumberland University Class of '08 On Saturday, May 3, 2008, Cumberland University presented country music icon Charlie Daniels and his wife, Hazel, with the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in recognition of their service to their community and their fellow man. Upon receiving the award, Mr. Daniels took a moment to speak to the graduates and guests at Cumberland University's 166th Commencement Ceremony. The text of Mr. Daniels' address is as follows: "To all who are responsible for bestowing this great honor on my wife and myself, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I have had the blessing of seeing a goodly part of this planet and have enjoyed it all and I love the United States of America from coast-to-coast and border-to-border and enjoy visiting all the places in our beautiful country, but when I think of home there's only one place on earth that fits that description and that's Wilson County, Tennessee. My wife, my son and myself have truly found a home sweet home here. This award is so special because it's being presented by the home folks. We will always remember this day, this honor and this graduating class. If you'll allow me, I would like to say a word to the class of 2008. If you only read newspapers or watched news reports on television you would think that the world you're about to walk out into is a place of turmoil, teetering on the edge of financial Armageddon, with little hope, a calloused and jaded society where prejudice runs rampant and industry is faltering.
