I know that some of my videos have mistakes but please understand I am only a club player. I plan on redoing some of the videos that have mistakes. Take care FAQ I will update this FAQ as necessary 1) Which chess server do you play on? I play on the Free Internet Chess Server (FICS). Its website is freechess.org 2) Which client do you use to connect to FICS? I use BabasChess although Jin is pretty good too. 3) Which books do you recommend? Pretty much anything Jeremy Silman writes is golden. I have four of his books, all of which are absolutely brilliant. How to Reassess your Chess The Amateur's Mind: Turning Chess Misconceptions into Chess Mastery The Complete Book of Chess Strategy The Reassess your Chess Workbook Mein System (English "My System) by Aron Nimzowitch is also a must-have for any player looking to improve the strategical element to his game. Chess by Laszlo Polgar is a great book for raw tactics. It has 5334 problems. It has no words, simply 5334 positions and all the solutions in the back. The Art of Attack by Vladimir Vukovic is also an excellent treatment on attacking. The series "Playing Winning Chess" by Yasser Seirawan is pretty good, but club players may think it is a little bit too simple. It's great for beginners though. For help with openings, the publication company Everyman Chess is my personal favorite. Here's a link to their website: http://everymanbooks.com/ The general style is to explain the ideas and present the theory as well in a friendly way. If you are simply looking for the book moves with less explanation, Modern Chess Openings (often referred to as MCO) by Nick de Firmian is THE resource. I believe it's in its 15th edition, though I myself own the 14th edition. 4) What do you use to record your videos? I use CamStudio (it's free) and a cheap little $10 microphone from BestBuy.
